Adipurush (transl. First man^[a]) is an upcoming Indian Hindu mythological film based on the Hindu epic Ramayana.^[5] The film is written and directed by Om Raut and produced by T-Series and Retrophiles. Shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu languages, the film stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage.

Adipurush was announced in August 2020, through an official motion poster. Principal photography commenced in February 2021 and ended in November 2021 taking place primarily in Mumbai. The film’s music is composed by Ajay–Atul. Adipurush is budgeted at over ₹700 crore (US$88 million), making it the most expensive Indian film ever made.

The film was set to premiere at the Tribeca Festival in the Escape From Tribeca section on 15 June 2023. The film is scheduled to be theatrically released on 16 June 2023.

Premise

7,000 years ago, Ayodhya’s king Raghava travels to the island of Lanka with the help of Hanuman’s army with an aim to rescue his wife Janaki, who has been abducted by Lankesh, the demon king of Lanka.^[4]
